The Key Work of School Boards: A Guidebook

When the National School Boards Association (NSBA) created the Key Work of School Boards in 1999, we strove to create a framework for raising student achievement through community engagement. But much has happened in public educator since 1999, and we must move with the times.

The Key Work of School Boards arms boards with the tools necessary to increase student achievement, not just on core areas, but on those necessary 21st century skills. This guide provides information for understanding and implementing the Key Work.

NSBA offers this guidebook as a resource to help boards of education carry out their responsibilities for creating equity and excellence in public education and for leading the community in preparing all students to succeed in a rapidly changing global society.
